Owyhee opals (pronounced oh-WYE-hee) are found in the United States in Owyhee, Oregon, around the Owyhee mountain range on the Oregon-Idaho border and the Owyhee River.
Considered a "common opal" since it does not exhibit color play, there is nothing common about this beautiful blue stone! Typically a sky blue, the stone is opaque and sometimes has white banding. This strand of faceted beads was selected for the generous size of the rondelles, as well as their beautiful color and faceting. Natural gemstones are beautiful and often exhibit inclusions which help to identify that the stone is genuine. You will notice some interesting inclusions that appear as black swirls Black inclusions in Owyhee opal are typically carbon or remnants of the host rock matrix (like basalt) that became trapped as the opal formed. These dark specks, veins, or squiggles are completely natural and serve as proof that the stone is genuine. The inclusions are internal characteristics, not external fractures in the stone.

Care: Avoid prolonged exposure to heat (or extreme heat), direct sunlight and contact with water, abrasive surfaces or chemicals. Avoid chemicals, cleaning solutions and bleach.
