This antique, Art Nouveau serpent was a brooch in a previous life, but I had my jeweler convert it to a pendant to make it more wearable. Initially, the serpent's face was pointing downward, but we flipped him around so he'd be facing you with his handsome face. With curving lines and beautiful engraving, the serpent also has a garnet red paste (cut glass) on his crown. The gold color has a rosy tone to it.
These jewelers invented a process for plating jewelry with a thick layer of gold that was so exceptional that not only has it lasted for 100 years to be worn again, but it is often mistaken for solid 18k gold jewelry. Savard used prestigious Art Nouveau designers in the production of their pieces, and you will often find jewelry signed by renowned sculptors.
The serpent has been embellished with a fringe of mystic black spinel and attached to a bright and oxidized sterling silver satellite chain. Please note the hallmark "FIX" on the back of the piece, and also some solder marks where the pin mechanism was removed. This does not detract from the piece, but is mentioned only to add to the description. For a piece over 100 years old, it is in very good antique condition with no loss to the gold on the front.
