This beautiful locket was manufactured by the R.B. MacDonald company, from Attleboro, MA (the jewelry capital of the US at the time). Founded in 1874, the company remained in business until 1924 and manufactured a variety of jewelry, including baby pins, bracelets, brooches, and charms, and lockets. This particular locket is from their "Beatrice" line, which was named after the owner's daughter. Inside these lockets is an adorable hallmark: RBM on top of a little bee, with the letters "ATRICE" beneath. Put this little rebus puzzle together and you get "BEATRICE", how sweet is that?
This locket is in very good vintage condition, with just minor marks on the back. The red and clear crystals are vibrant and the locket snaps closed securely. The four clear crystals are replacements. The interior does not contains the original frames, but you can still use the locket for photos if you want to secure them inside with glue. The locket measures 28mm and is suspended from a hand fabricated chain of faceted garnet rondelles, kyanite barrel shaped beads, and freshwater pearls. The locket is removable and can be unclipped from the pavé diamond clasp which is set in sterling silver.
