This necklace is absolutely one of a kind and breathtaking! The smooth polished rondelles are a gemstone called "schalenblende".
The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has noted that schalenblende is a rare variety of colloidal sphalerite that is sometimes used for cabochons. Schalenblende is a zinc-lead ore with a concentric-layered structure that is made up of a mixture of sulfides. The layers can include sphalerite, wurtzite, pyrite, marcasite, and galena.
The name schalenblende comes from the German words Schale and Blende, which mean "shell ore". Schalenblende is found in many countries, including Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, the United States, Mexico, Peru, Morocco, Australia, Spain, Russia, China, Bolivia, and Canada. The beads graduate from 3-6mm and the necklace is finished with a 14k gold lobster claw clasp. At 24" in length, it looks great on it's own over a sweater, tunic, or tee. The longer length also allows it to layer seamlessly with other necklaces, as shown in the last photo. (Necklaces can be purchased separately on the website.)
