Floriography, or the Victorian Language of Flowers, was developed as a way to secretly communicate during a time when proper etiquette discouraged overt displays of emotion. First emerging in 1819, this coded “language” was used widely throughout England and America during the 19th century.

This one of a kind necklace is a collaboration between my friend, @gisellekolbjewelry and me.  Giselle created the beautiful Ethiopian opal pendant, hand fabricating each component with a combination of sterling silver and solid 18k gold.  The tiny flower and leaves are all hand made and vitreous enamel was used to create the beautiful colors you see.  A faceted chrome diopside rondelle wire wrapped in oxidized sterling silver accents the side.

The hand knotted silk necklace, created by me, includes faceted smooth polished Ethiopian opals and Oregon sunstone, along with lustrous freshwater pearls.  Each gemstone and pearl is individually strung and then hand knotted on coral silk cord. The ends are finished with two solid 14k gold clasps in an antique style to capture the nature of Victorian jewelry.  The pendant is removable, allowing for versatility.

The secret message in this bouquet?

In Victorian times, giving a hibiscus meant that the giver was acknowledging the receiver’s delicate beauty.

Paired with white orchids for purity and elegance.
