An antique French good luck charm, this lovely pendant features a soaring swallow holding a ribbon in its beak on the front, with a space in the back to place your own special photo behind the original celluloid. The swallow's ribbon says “Je Porte Bonheur” (I bring good luck), along with the lucky “13”. The frame is brass, the swallow silver plated, and I’ve created a handmade bail of sterling silver and coiled 14kt gold filled wire, and accented the piece with a glowing Ethiopian opal briolette. It is suspended from an oxidized sterling silver rolo chain that is 18” in length.
In Victorian times, the number 13 was considered lucky, so perhaps it will bring good fortune to you, as well. Swallows mate for life, and are also considered symbolic for love, loyalty and good luck. Sailors always viewed them as a sign for a safe journey home and a successful voyage. This is a beautiful and symbolic piece of jewelry that has a beautiful image and time worn patina to it.
