A beautiful vintage, gold filled locket with its original paste in a floral design and vine-like design around the border is suspended from a pavé diamond clasp in sterling silver and a hand knotted chain of black spinel rondelles. The locket's design is Art Nouveau and is hallmarked RBM Atrice.
This beautiful locket was manufactured by the R.B. MacDonald company, from Attleboro, MA (the jewelry capital of the US at the time). Founded in 1874, the company remained in business until 1924 and manufactured a variety of jewelry, including baby pins, bracelets, brooches, and charms, and lockets. This particular locket is from their "Beatrice" line, which was named after the owner's daughter. Inside these lockets is an adorable hallmark: RBM on top of a little bee, with the letters "ATRICE" beneath. Put this little rebus puzzle together and you get "BEATRICE", how sweet is that?
The locket is in wonderful vintage condition, with only minor wear to the back right side of the locket, which is shown. The locket closes with a satisfying click and the back of the locket is free of any monograms, which is unusual to find. The interior has space for two photos, along with its original celluloid covers.
The locket is removable from the necklace and the necklace can be worn with other pieces in your collection.
